• Individual Adult Therapy

Update 11/21/24: I currently have a short wait-list for ongoing therapy. I do have openings for diagnostic assessments, gender-affirming care assessments, and ESA letters.

    Meet Alex Ross, MA, LPC

I am Alexandra "Alex" S. Ross, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri. I utilize a variety of science-based theories and techniques that have been clinically shown to help people change, experience relief from suffering, and improve their lives.

    My approach

I specialize in providing a highly individualized and integrative approach to therapy, tailored specifically to meet your individual needs. By offering authenticity, unconditional acceptance, and support, I provide a safe space for us to work together so that you can be your true self, reach your goals, cope with stressors, and make positive changes in your life.

    Diagnosis

My post-Master's training and experience as a diagnostician allows me with the expertise to provide you with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis if you would like one. If appropriate I also will write letters of accommodations, fill out paperwork for FMLA, etc. I can also refrain from diagnosing if you would prefer.

    The Therapy Process

Once we have determined a diagnosis or problem to work on together, we will make a list of goals and a comprehensive treatment plan that will address the cause and the symptoms (or whichever you feel most comfortable with addressing).

    Specializations

I have a lot of experience working with individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD), complex PTSD (cPTSD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), trauma- including sexual trauma, physical trauma, and long-term relational trauma (e.g. - emotional neglect, frequent invalidation, witnessing or experiencing frequent conflict, etc.), Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, depression, Adult Autism, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). I have experience working with individuals with other diagnoses, problems, and goals as well, so feel free to ask if I can help you with your reason for seeking therapy!

    Limitations

As a licensed professional counselor, I only practice within my scope of competence. Therefore, it is important that you know which issues I cannot help with to make sure you get therapy that is best suited to you.

I have not been trained to treat Eating Disorders, such as Anorexia, and Bulimia. However, I am competent to help you with overeating, body image, and developing healthy eating habits and a better relationship with food. I do not specialize in Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Antisocial Personality Disorder. However, I enjoy working with individuals with any other personality disorders and often integrate in Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy principles to maximize treatment. Many clients have suicidal thoughts, which I am competent to treat. However, I am not proficient at treating homicidal ideation or strong urges to harm others. I also do not have the resources to work with clients with severe Substance Use Disorders. If you need therapy for one of the issues I do not treat, feel free to ask for a referral to a therapist that specializes in that area.

    DBT

I provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that includes symptom and skill-use tracking, coping skills training during sessions, and assignments for in-between sessions. Coaching calls are also available 7 days per week from 9am-9pm for only $45/call.

    EMDR

For those with trauma, I provide a version of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) that replaces eye movement with tapping in order to induce bilateral stimulation in the brain. This form of trauma therapy allows you more comfortably work on memories that cause distress and prevent emotional triggers that are often caused by an underlying trauma. I have been trained to incorporate “parts work” into EDMR for complex trauma. For those who prefer another therapy for trauma, I can provide Narrative Trauma Therapy, emotion-focused processing, or Cognitive Processing Therapy.

    Dissociative Identity Disorder Treatment

For those with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder) I utilize Colin Ross's (no relation) Trauma Model Therapy for stabilization and incorporate in Internal Family Systems principles. I have had great success helping individuals with DID significantly decrease gaps in memory and experience more fulfilling and stable lives.

    Transgender and LGBTQ+ Clients

I provide gender-affirming therapy, assessments, and letters for trans and non-binary adults and stay on top of state laws to make sure my trans clients receive care. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I enjoy working with other who identify in this way. I also have a lot of experience working with Polyamorous and Ethically Non-monogamous individuals.

    Availability

I provide telehealth to anyone in Missouri. I have limited in-person sessions at our conveniently located office in the centrally located Brookside area of Kansas City, MO.

    Fees

I bill Aetna, United Health Care, Oxford, Oscar, and UMR insurance plans for ongoing therapy. Unfortunately, I do not accept community plans, medicaid, or medicare. For clients without those insurances, I am currently charging $150/session. For those with other insurance providers, I am happy to give you documentation so that you can get reimbursed if you have out-of-network benefits. I also accept HSA and FSA cards. I can provide sessions twice weekly, weekly, or every 2 weeks.
